Less is More (and Simples Sunday - a day early!)

Less is More has a guest designer Hannelie (or Desert Diva) this week and, to acknowledge her blog name, the challenge is SAND. It doesn't have to be the colour, it can be anything related to sand but as you can see I have gone for the colour element!
I've kept the design simple for two reasons - one being I didn't have a lot of time this morning and secondly because I don't have a Simples Sunday card this week so this one can be doubled up as Less is More & Simples Saturday!!
If you're wondering about the colour I've used it's Baked Brown Sugar, a brand new colour from SU which will be available on Tuesday with the new catalogue launch. I took a strip of cardstock and diecut both sides with an Adorning Accents Edgelits die, then matted a piece of Very Vanilla on top before tying round some Baker's Twine. I stamped the image from Love & Sympathy in Baked Brown Sugar onto a Neutrals Ivory card blank before matting the panel on top. To finish the card a sentiment, from Petite Pairs and again in Baked Brown Sugar, was stamped on the Very Vanilla.
I have a special 'afternoon tea' to go to tomorrow (provided by my lovely sister of course!) to celebrate my Mum's 92nd birthday. She will have her two daughters, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren there and I have a feeling it could be a bit hectic :0)
Whatever you're doing have a great weekend and I'll be back soon x

Card Swap Group

This is the card I've made for this month's Card Swap Group and is for Zoe Tant (her bog is here). It was Zoe's birthday last month so I happen to know her favourite colour is purple and, knowing that, I just had to use Elegant Eggplant. Jane, the organiser of the group, has set a little challenge to use embossing this month and this could either be dry or heat embossing - I chose the dry embossing. I started by embossing a piece of Elegant Eggplant cardstock with the Chevron Embossing Folder and, once this was done, I placed it onto Whisper White and embossed zig-zag lines on either side using my Simply Scored Borders Plate. Three butterflies were punched from vellum using the Elegant Butterfly Punch and then embossed using three different folders. The sentiment from Pennant Parade was punched with the small Scallop Circle Punch and layered onto Word Window and Modern Label punched pieces. A few Basic Rhinestones were added for the finishing touches.
Well it's Friday again, let's hope the weather is a bit better than last weekend!!

Made to Match

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to dinner at a work colleagues house to celebrate her new job and I bought the gift-wrapped rose to take as a present. I needed a card to go with it so I took inspiration from the gift bag and came up with the card above. I used Field Flowers stamped with Daffodil Delight and Wisteria Wonder and, two new colours, Pear Pizzazz and Blushing Bride.
The cardstock used for the mat is Melon Mambo with some Melon Mambo ribbon (now retired) and the sentiment is from Sassy Salutations, stamped in Basic Black and punched with the Decorative Label Punch.
Tomorrow I will be back to show you this month's card I made for the card swap group, which hopefully Zoe has received by now!

CAS Mosaics

As promised, I'm back with a quick CAS card using new products from SU. A new colour added to the Neutrals collection is Smoky Slate, a lighter almost silvery grey compared to the Basic Gray in the same collection. I've not tried it yet but I'm sure they would look lovely together and I can see them being used a lot for those male cards. I stamped three different images from Mosaic Madness and punched them out with the co-ordinating Mosaic punch (all available from July 2nd). The Whisper White panel was scored in the 'handkerchief style' which was invented by Vicky. If you didn't see my LIM card on Saturday then do go and check out Vicky's blog which can be found here and you will be able to see the beautiful cards she made in this style last week. It was then a simple job to put the card together, add a sentiment and a grey pearl in the centre of each punched mosaic to finish. (Pearls were non-SU from my stash)

Tile Effect

Today's card is using a technique which I believe is called the 'tile effect' and one which I have seen lately around blogland. I thought I would give it a go and am quite pleased with the result.
I started with a piece of Whisper White cardstock and scored a grid at 1cm intervals to create the 'tile effect'. Once this was done I sponged the cardstock with Wisteria Wonder before stamping the images from Field Flowers in Elegant Eggplant and Old Olive. Unfortunately, as you can see, I was in too much of a rush to use my stamp-a-ma-jig so the stems disappear a little too much into the flower heads!! A butterfly was stamped in Elegant Eggplant and another, punched from Vellum with the Bitty Butterfly Punch and sponged with ink, was placed so it overlapped. The sentiment, also from Field Flowers, was stamped in the bottom corner before matting and layering onto Elegant Eggplant cardstock and a white card blank.
Tomorrow I will be back with another very easy CAS card using new stamps, a new punch and a new colour!

New Colour Sneak Peek

I'm not really a 'pink' person myself but, if you are, then the new SU Strawberry Slush is right up your street. This is a really vibrant colour and not one of your wishy-washy pinks and has a name which sounds good enough to eat!!!
This is another very simple card using the Papillon Potpourri stamp set and co-ordinating punch for the large butterfly third from the left (the others were stamped directly onto the Whisper White panel). For the pink panel going down the card I simply shaped one edge using the Scallop Border Punch and then ran through the Stripes Embossing Folder. I added a little bit of scoring/embossing on two corners and few Basic Rhinestones were dotted around to add a bit of bling!
The new annual catalogue goes live on 2nd July so if you would like to purchase any supplies then please don't hesitate to contact me - I am offering free p&p (normally £4.95) on orders over £50 until July 31st.

Simples Sunday (and another sneak peek)

Two cards this week for Simples Sunday - one for a boy and one for a girl! And again showing you a combination of current, retiring and brand new products - as well as two brand new colours!
The retiring product is the sentiment from Friendly Phrases and, although it's retiring, it will be a set I hang on to as I just can't seem to part with the sentiment sets! The current products are the buttons from the Sweet Buttons Embosslits and the flowers from Boho Blossoms and Itty Bitty Shapes punches.
The rest will be revealed in just over a week's time. If you haven't got your catalogue yet, and you would like to buy one, please get in touch.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend x

LIM Handkerchief Style

The Less is More challenge today is to make 'a birthday card for Jen' and, because Jen says if she had to make a card for herself it would include dogs, cats or butterflies, I went for the butterflies.
Now a bit about the 'handkerchief style'. This is a new 'style' designed by the lovely and very talented Vicky Hayes. Please go and look at her cards they are beautiful!(just click on her name and you'll be whisked straight there). Vicky has named this because it reminds her of a folded hankie - what better reason?
I have used Whisper White and Elegant Eggplant along with the Papillon Potpourri stamps set and a, soon retiring, sentiment from Made for You.
This is a really quick card to make, made even quicker by the co-ordinating Elegant Butterfly and Bitty Butterfly punches!
Have a lovely weekend - it is absolutely pouring down here at the moment and I am being deafened by the noise it is making on the conservatory roof, but hopefully it will brighten up later! x

This is the inside of the card!

Sneak Peek Anniversary

Another commissioned card, this time for an anniversary and the brief - something quick & simple.
So, again, I have used a combo of retired, current and brand spanking new!
Made with a 'soon to be available' stamp set, co-ordinating Punch and Embossing Folder and that's all I can say for now! I used Midnight Muse ink, cardstock and Stitched Satin Ribbon with a sentiment which is now retired. The pearls are non-SU from my stash.
Hopefully I will be back tomorrow for the new LIM challenge x

Last one in the set!

For the last card in the set I have used Gumball Green. A strip of DSP, with a knot of Bakers Twine, was matted on a slightly wider strip of cardstock and positioned across the card. A brand new stamp, punched with a brand new punch and matted onto another punched piece, was glued in place and three circles of Gumball Green cardstock finished the card.
That's it for the 'Small and Simple for Men' set. Back soon x

Another Small and Simple

A really, really simple card for the third in the set. Made with Not Quite Navy (soon retiring), a brand new punch coming very soon and a sentiment from Sassy Salutations (current).
And that really is all there is to it!! Tomorrow is the last card in the set and some more sneak peeks.

Tuesday 18 June 2013

Small and Simple

This is my next card in the small & simple set for men. For this card I used Chocolate Chip ink and cardstock (current) with a retired SAB sentiment. I used a stamp-a-ma-jig to position the sentiment and stamped four times - the third one down was stamped off first to give a lighter shade.
I punched four holes with the 1/4" circle punch (retired) to allow the Chocolate Chip mat to show through. Layered onto a 4" square card blank and job done!
Tomorrow I will be showing you some more 'sneak peeks' of new products coming very soon.

Mix'n'Match for the Men

I have been asked by a work colleague to make her a set of small, simple cards suitable for men and this is the first one in the set. Actually the first one in the set was the one I posted yesterday for Simples Sunday but you've probably already seen that one!
I have called it mix'n'match because I've used a mixture of current, retired, soon to be retired and brand new products to make the cards.
This card uses Basic Gray ink and cardstock (current), French Foliage (soon to be retired) and a sentiment from SAB (retired) punched with the Curly Label punch (current) and matted onto a Decorative Label (current).
I masked a section of Whisper White, stamped the leaves from French Foliage and after removing the mask I drew a line down either side using a Basic Gray marker. The Whsiper White is matted onto Basic Gray cardstock and then matted onto a 4" square card blank.
Pop back tomorrow to see the next one in the set!

Simples Sunday Sneak Peek

For my Simples Sunday card today I am combining it with a Sneak Peek at some new SU products which you will be able to buy on 2nd July when the annual catalogue launches. My card shows you a couple of new things combined with a few old favourites. Can you spot the new ones?
I used Naturals Ivory and Chocolate Chip cardstock along with the Stripes Embossing Folder and buttons from the Sweet Buttons Embosslits die and that's all I can share with you for now!
Don't forget if you would like me to order any products for you, hold a workshop in your home, interested in attending my monthly classes or even joining my team and becoming a demo yourself then I am always happy to help (contact details can be found on the tab at the top).
Until next time, enjoy the rest of the weekend x

Less Is More with Hexagons

A very quick card and a very quick post today as I'm expecting my son-in-law to come and paint my kitchen at any minute!
The LIM challenge this week is to use hexagons and this is my really simple entry. I embossed a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock with the Honeycomb Embossing folder and matted it onto a strip of Chocolate Chip DSP. I attached some Bakers Twine around the panel before matting onto a 4" x 4" cream card blank and then added a sentiment from, the soon to be retiring, Made for You set. I doctored the Decorative Label punched out piece by re-inserting the label and punching again and then rounded the end with a 1" Circle Punch.
Must dash now as I need to get the kettle on ready for the 'worker' :0) Have a great weekend and I'll be back soon x

Dress up!

I always like to make the ladies who come to my classes a little gift to take home and this is what I did for yesterday's class. I have seen lots of similar designs on various blogs so, as I have no idea who made the original, I cannot give them credit but thank you whoever you are!
I used the Dress Up Framelits to make the dresses with the Polka Dot Parade DSP and cardstock in Pumpkin Pie, Marina Mist, Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Real Red, however most of the co-ordinating ribbon is now retired. The necklaces are Basic Rhinestones and Basic Pearls and they hold a lip salve. Very cute!

Birthday Cupcakes

It is a friend, and work colleagues, birthday today and we always buy a smallish pressie. As she is the Food Tech teacher I thought these 'Butter Bath Melts' were ideal. They look good enough to eat don't they?
Having bought the present I needed to make a gift box for them and decided to copy the cupcakes for the box design.
Made with Real Red cardstock and DSP, an Apothecary Accents die, the Cupcake Builder Punch and some now retired Real Red Satin Ribbon

I also made a birthday card to match! (below)

Wednesday 12 June 2013

Embossed Dots

A really simple card and a great way of using up some of those card scraps.
For this card I used Lucky Limeade, Early Espresso and Crumb Cake and punched different size circles. These were glued to a panel of Whisper White cardstock before running through the Square Lattice Embossing folder. This was matted onto Lucky Limeade and then onto a card blank with a narrow strip of Early Espresso running across the card. The sentiment was cut with a die from the Apothecary Accents Framelits collection and then cut again to make a smaller frame before matting onto another one cut with Early Espresso.
Tomorrow I hope to show you a matching set which I have made for a friend's birthday.

More Poppies

Back again with the Pleasant Poppies background stamp, this time stamped onto a piece of the First Edition Specialty DSP. Firstly it was stamped with Staz-on and then coloured with a blender pen using Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive. The stamped DSP was matted onto Pumpkin Pie cardstock and fixed to a Neutrals Ivory card blank.
A strip of Pumpkin Pie was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch and this was placed across the card before adding a sentiment, punched with the Oval Punch and matted onto a Scallop Oval.
This was a fairly quick card to make and a good card to make if, like me, you find 'colouring-in' therapeutic :0)
Pop back tomorrow to see another quick and easy card which I made for my Mum to give to my nephew on his birthday.

Monday 10 June 2013

Spotlighting

I bought the Pleasant Poppies background stamp a few weeks ago and have only just got round to using it! I have seen this technique all over blogland and was wanting to have a go so here is my attempt.
I stamped the poppies onto Whisper White using Staz-on and then again on a smaller piece of cardstock. The image was coloured with a blender pen using Raspberry Ripple and Old Olive inks before punching out with the largest circle punch. The larger panel was matted onto Raspberry Ripple cardstock and I added some Stitched Satin Ribbon tied in a knot before placing on a white card blank. The coloured circle was fixed in place with dimensionals and a sentiment added.
I have another design to show you tomorrow using the same stamp so do pop back and take a look.

Sunday 9 June 2013

Simples Sunday

Today's card is made using the Everything Eleanor stamp set and Melon Mambo and was really simple to make. I started by stamping the flower onto Whisper White cardstock and added the Old Olive stem using my stamp-a-ma-jig, this was then fixed onto a card blank. I cut an aperture in a piece of Melon Mambo cardstock with a die from the Window Frames Collection (you could use any die for this) and then ran it through the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. After deciding where I wanted my sentiment, I cut the Melon Mambo in two and trimmed a piece of the bottom segment wide enough for the sentiment and fixed to the card blank. I added some stamens to the flower using a Basic Black marker and the sentiment, from Bring on the Cake, is stamped in Melon Mambo with a Basic Rhinestone on either side.
Have a great Sunday and I'll be back soon x

Friday 7 June 2013

Happy Birthday

I made this card and money holder for my nephew's birthday which is today.
I used the Typeset Alphabet Bigz die to cut out the letters from DSP covered chipboard and mounted these onto Whisper White cardstock which had been run through the Chevron Embossing Folder, matted onto Basic Gray cardstock and fixed to a plain white card blank. The 'birthday' was punched using the Word Window and Jewelry Tag punches with a bow of Bakers Twine added.

The money wallet was made from Basic Gray cardstock with letters made in the same way as above and the top flap embossed.
The closure was made with two buttons cut from the Sweet Buttons Sizzlits die and tied with Bakers Twine
